Instrumental Music

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination
and life to everything.” ― Plato

We all encounter music somewhere in our lives, from hearing lullabies as babies, to our favourite tunes on the radio, to in the shopping centres – music is everywhere. We are all touched, in some way by music. While not all our students will become great academics or champion sports people or professional musicians, all can benefit from learning music. Music learning uses multiple areas and networks of the brain simultaneously, and is a discipline that effectively improves the cognitive capacity of the brain.

Music & the Arts is a growing area at our College. We value its place in enriching the lives of our students, in boosting their capacity to learn in every other area of academic and social endeavour, and in expressing worship to the Lord. As an added bonus, it’s incredibly enjoyable. Below you will find an outline of how music fits into the life of Parklands Christian College. Classroom music is available to all students, from Prep right through to Year 12. All Primary classes have a one hour lesson per week, while Secondary classes are scheduled according to the timetable and student subject choices. These classes are designed to give students a foundational understanding of and appreciation for a variety of styles of music, with standards of analysis, composition and performance increasing through the year levels.
