“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination
and life to everything.” ― Plato
We all encounter music somewhere in our lives, from hearing lullabies as babies, to our favourite tunes on the radio, to in the shopping centres – music is everywhere. We are all touched, in some way by music. While not all our students will become great academics or champion sports people or professional musicians, all can benefit from learning music. Music learning uses multiple areas and networks of the brain simultaneously, and is a discipline that slowly & effectively improves the cognitive capacity of the brain.
Music & the Arts is a growing area at our College. We value its place in enriching the lives of our students, in boosting their capacity to learn in every other area of academic & social endeavour, and in expressing worship to the Lord. As an added bonus, it’s incredibly enjoyable. Below you will find an outline of how music fits into the life of Parklands Christian College. Classroom music is available to all students, from Prep right through to Year 12. All Primary classes have one 30min lesson per week, while Secondary classes are scheduled according to the timetable and student subject choices. These classes are designed to give students a foundational understanding of and appreciation for a variety of styles of music, with standards of analysis, composition and performance increasing through the year levels.
Students can enrol in Instrumental Music lessons at the College, either as private lessons or as shared lessons with other students. Our Year 5 students have the option to be part of the Give It A Go! Band Programme, which is a one year partly subsidised programme to give students a start on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. After completing the Give It A Go! programme, students can transition into private or shared lessons the following year.”
Tuition is offered for the following instruments:
- Piano (private lessons only)
- Bass guitar
- Drum kit
- Saxophone (Alto & Tenor)
- French Horn
- Euphonium / Baritone
- Double Bass

We have a growing number of opportunities for our students to participate in performance groups within the life of the College. These Ensembles range from beginner to more advanced students, and encompass a variety of styles of music.
- Primary Junior Choir (Years 2 & 3)
- Primary Senior Choir (Years 4, 5 & 6)
- Secondary Choir (Years 7-12)
- Worship team (Years 7-12)
- Give It A Go! Band (Year 5 Give It A Go! Programme participants)
- Wind Ensemble (All year levels)
Students who progress to higher levels are given the opportunity to participate in the various Queensland Conservatorium SHEP programmes offered throughout the year, as well as other festivals & workshops. We are very keen for our students to have these experiences, to mix with other students & to learn from respected instructors at these events.
