Wellbeing
A Culture Where Every Student Flourishes
At Parklands Christian College, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student feels connected, valued, empowered and equipped to flourish.
We recognise that student wellbeing and behaviour education are foundational to healthy development, academic success and strong character formation. This conviction underpins our culture of care and is reflected in the daily work of our staff across the College.
Supporting Every Student to Thrive
Wellbeing encompasses the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of a young person’s life. We understand that both internal and external factors influence a student’s capacity to thrive, and we seek to respond with compassion, wisdom and practical support. All staff share responsibility for nurturing student wellbeing, supported by a dedicated Student Care and Wellbeing Team of Social Workers and Responsible Thinking Process Facilitators.
Based within the Responsible Thinking Classroom (RTC), the team provides individualised support tailored to each student’s circumstances. Students may be referred for wellbeing concerns or behaviour-related matters, with the understanding that both are opportunities for growth. Areas of support include friendship challenges, emotional regulation, mental health, cyber safety, relationships, grief and loss, and broader health concerns. Assistance may involve mediated conversations, individual sessions, structured programs, practical strategy development, restorative processes and collaboration with parents or guardians. Where appropriate, families are also supported with guidance toward external services and referrals.
Building Responsibility, Strengthening Character
Behaviour Education is central to our approach of building powerful people. At Parklands, we believe that behaviour is learned and can be strengthened through intentional teaching, reflection and accountability. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their choices, to recognise that mistakes are part of learning, and to understand the importance of repairing harm and accepting consequences. Through this process, students develop self control, emotional regulation, respectful conflict resolution, strong peer relationships and skills that prepare them for life beyond school.
To support this philosophy, the College utilises the Responsible Thinking Process (RTP), grounded in Perceptual Control Theory, alongside principles from Keeping Your Love On by Danny Silk. These frameworks shape our restorative and reflective practices, helping students understand the impact of their behaviour and empowering them to make constructive and powerful choices.
The Responsible Thinking Classroom provides a structured environment where students are given time and space to reflect, build insight and develop strategies for positive change. Just as students learn academic subjects, we believe responsibility, communication and character are areas that can be intentionally taught and strengthened.
Grounded in Faith, Growing in Community
As a Christian community, our care for students is grounded in our belief that God calls us into healthy and connected relationships with Him and with one another. We seek to model grace and truth, holding students accountable while extending dignity and hope. The Student Care and Wellbeing Team also facilitates the Loving Our Kids on Purpose parenting course during the school year, equipping families with practical tools to build strong, respectful and loving relationships at home.
