Learning in Middle School
The Key Learning Areas
In Middle School, the curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support students through the changes and challenges that come with adolescence.
As they move through these years, students are encouraged to discover what interests them, develop their strengths, and grow in confidence, resilience, and a genuine desire to learn—qualities that will serve them well into the future.
In Year 7, students are introduced to a wide range of subject areas, giving them the opportunity to explore different pathways and begin identifying what sparks their interest.
By Year 8, they are able to start selecting elective subjects, allowing them to shape their learning in a way that reflects their abilities and emerging goals. In Year 9, students continue to refine these choices while taking greater ownership of their learning, building both independence and self-assurance.
This flexible and supportive approach ensures that each student remains engaged, appropriately challenged, and well prepared as they move toward their Senior years.
Year 7 and 8 Students
- Year 7 and 8 students undertake the following subjects:
- Christian Life Skills
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- Health and Physical Education
- Information and Communications Technologies
Students engage in Technology and Arts rotations:

- Design, Construction, Textiles, Food Technologies
- Visual Art, Music, Drama, Dance
Year 9 Students
- Year 9 students undertake the following core subjects:
- Christian Life Skills
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- History
- Health and Physical Education
Students select three (3) subjects from the following year long electives:
- Design, Construction, Food and Textiles Technologies
- Visual Art, Music, Drama, Dance
- Information and Communications Technologies
- Business, STEM
